First Responders
A strong community begins with a sense of well-being. Those who are called to protect and serve live among us – our sons and daughters, husbands, wives, dads, moms and our brothers and sisters. They run towards danger, and we need to continue to support them in their mission. Expanding on the city's co-response initiative and working with Spokane Valley Chief Ellis is key to ensuring the safety of the residents of our city.
Accountability
Even the most gracious among us know that there are limits to multiple chances at rehabilitation. Let’s continue to support people who are doing their best to change their lives for the better, often despite the difficult cards they have been dealt. Let’s draw the line with career criminals, drug dealers, human-trafficking and other habitual attacks to our community.
Attainable Housing
The single greatest personal wealth-building vehicle in America is the family home. The American Dream of home ownership is unavailable to too many. The entry-level housing market is too small and the cost to senior citizens staying in their homes is too high. Due to aggressive regulations in WA, we are losing our attainable housing to the building-friendly State of Idaho. We need to level the market for Washington State builders and homebuyers alike.
Robust Business
Our Spokane Valley economy involves locally-owned large business (Aerospace, Agribusiness, Distribution, Healthcare, Hospitality, Information Technology and Manufacturing) to small business (Coffee Shops, Recreation, Restaurants and Retail). We are home to innovation and are strategically located to continue our tradition as a major player in our regional economy – with worldwide reach.
Keeping Us Connected
We are not just a drive-by community, and yet thousands of commerce and commuter vehicles do pass by I-90 every day. This dynamic provides on and off-ramp access that must not compromise our local connectivity. This cannot be a patchwork process – instead, we need to continue our local planning that respects Spokane Valley citizens and commerce connectivity.
Infrastructure Stewardship
Our shared infrastructure is aging and needs constant upkeep. Ensuring this infrastructure is maintained is one of the primary responsibilities of the Spokane Valley City Council, and doing so in a fiscally responsible manner is of the utmost importance.
